Abstract
An evolutionary perspective on signaling games is adopted to explain some semantic universals concerning truth-conditional connectives; property denoting expressions, and generalized quantifiers. The question to be addressed is: of the many meanings of a particular type that can be expressed, why are only some of them expressed in natural languages by ‘simple’ expressions?BibTex
